Fool Moon

You’d think there’d be a little more action for the only professional wizard listed in the Chicago phone book. But lately, Harry Dresden hasn’t been able to dredge up any kind of work: magical, mundane, or menial.
Just when it looks like he can’t afford his next meal, a murder comes along that requires his particular brand of supernatural expertise. There’s a brutally mutilated corpse, and monstrous animal markings at the scene. Not to mention that the killing took place on the night of a full moon. Harry knows exactly where this case is headed. Take three guesses—and the first two don’t count...

Urban wizard Harry Dresden is back against werewolves and gangsters

I just finished Fool Moon which is part two of The Dresden Files series by James Butcher and I was happy with the story. Wizard Harry Dresden continues to find ways out of magical trouble but not without getting severely pummeled first. This time there is a killer werewolf that Harry needs to stop.
One of my reasons that Harry Dresden is one of my favorite fantasy heroes is that he is still very human and vulnerable. He is always nearly broke and the women in his life often want to arrest him or get him in trouble. Then you add on top of that the fact that he tends to get himself between dangerous werewolves during a full moon and you end up with a very entertaining story.
There was plenty of action in this book.  Harry was running from the police and his friend,
Lt. Karin Murphy of Chicago's Special Investigations Unit, while trying to keep more people from dying during a werewolf killing spree. The problem is that there are several groups of werewolves and who is the killer.
While there was plenty of action I did find some of the character development to be weaker than the first book. Many of the people in Harry's life tended to take a background role and the audio book at ten hours seemed to be too short. I still give the book five out of five stars as another fun chapter in the world of Harry Dresden but hope to read about some further character development of Harry and his friends in future books.
